“It takes hustle and heart to make it in the world of streetwear.”
Last June 18, HBO Max posted a sneak peek on YouTube of what’s about to come in the fashion industry. The Hype is an eight-episode series produced by Scout Productions that features ten fashion designers competing against each other to see who’s got what it takes to elevate the streetwear culture to a whole new level.
The streetwear competition takes place in Los Angeles and is hosted by Speedy Morman altogether with Beth Birkett, Marni Senofonte, and the Iconic Hip Hop star, Offset as the judges.
The show also features special guests including Wiz Khalifa, A$AP Ferg, Cardi B, Dapper Dan, Bobby Hundreds, Lil Jupiter, Aleali May, Jungle Pussy, and Dennis To Disco.
The 10 designers who would compete against each other are Alan King, Kai Lumieres, Bluboy, Camila Romero, Caroline Bentley Noble, Front Paije, Justin Mensinger, Jolleson, Wole Olosunde, and Alani Taylor. Many people from all around the world are excited to see how each contestant showoff their unique designs.
There will be a series of design obstacles that will challenge the designers’ creativity and ingenuity to merge culture with today’s fashion. For each challenge, the panel of judges will examine which design can move on to the next round. Each round brings on more pressure and suspense to see which designer can get their hand on the grand prize: to be featured on one of the biggest reselling platforms on the internet, StockX.
At the end of the competition, the last standing designer will get to take home $150,000 with a massive breakthrough on his/her brand.
Guest-host, Anthony Anderson interviewed the multi-platinum rapper, Offset on Jimmy Kimmel Live show last July 20. Offset mentioned his excitement towards his new show:
“It’s giving a chance for the youth to be seen… A lot of these bigger brands, they take ideas and make all the money from it, and these kids don’t get a fair share or acknowledgment of their creativity and their art.” – Offset
Alan King (IG: @alanking, TikTok: @alankingny), the founder and designer of AKINGS, joined the show to express his excitement to show all of his followers and the new audience how he’s pushing the boundaries within the streetwear market. Last July 22, Alan announced on Twitter that he joined The Hype competition and was excited to showcase his skills.
Fans of streetwear culture and creatives alike are excited and thrilled to witness a competition that showcases streetwear culture from the eyes of new and emerging designers in the US.
The Hype will debut on August 12 on HBO Max. Follow HBO Max on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to stay updated on The Hype and get ready to witness the future of streetwear fashion.
